LAHORE, (TLTP): Days after government proposed amendment in Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act (LPBCA) 1973 for cancelation of a lawyer licence for life in case of rowdyism or cheating, fraud, forgery, false affidavits or deliberate concealment of facts during adjudications, legal fraternity raised eyebrows saying all the bar associations are competent to deal with disciplinary matters of their member lawyers.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, secretary Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Barrister Haroon Dugal expressed, ‘The Bar stands united to uphold the dignity of lawyers and strongly condemns the bill to amend Section 41 of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act being introduced in the Assembly”.

While demanding immediate withdrawal of the bill secretary LHCBA said, “It infringes upon the authority of the bar associations to deal with disciplinary matters of their member advocates”.

He further said that in case of any inaction on part of the authorities to withdraw the controversial bill, the LHCBA will take all necessary steps to protect the dignity of the Bar and uphold the authority of the bar councils.
