Defense Ministry to send four names to PM for new Air Chief

Islamabad : The process of appointment of new Chief of Air Staff is commenced as Ministry of Defense would forward the summary containing names of four senior PAF officers to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi next week.
The sources in Ministry of Defense told this scribe that Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman NI (M) would be retired on 18 March. He was appointed on the slot of Air Chief on 18 March 2015 by the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The Ministry of Defense has prepared a summary, which would be forwarded to Prime Minister on Monday or Tuesday for approval. The President Mamnoon Hussain would appoint the new Air Chief on the advice of Prime Minister. Following the passage of 18th amendment, Prime Minister has the prerogative to select all the services chiefs.
The sources informed Online that the senior most officer is Air Marshal Farooq Habib, who is now performing the duty of Vice Chief of Air Staff. After him Air Marshal Mujahid Anwar, who is Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Support) agt htis time. The other two officers included in the seniority list are Air Marshal Arshad Mehmood , Deputy Chief of Air Staff(Personnel) and Deputy Chief of Air Staff(Admin) Air Marshal Asim Zamir . All these four Principal Staff Officers have worked on other important posts in Pakistan Air Force too.
“If PM would seniority of officers keep in veiw, then Air Marshal Farooq Habib would be the most favorite candidate for the prestigious position. Whereas Air Marshal Mujahid Anwar is also among the serious runners in the race”, the source added.
