Islamabad, The outgoing Chairman Senate Main Raza Rabbani is likely to retain the top slot again as Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and its alliance have decided to support the PPP if Raza Rabbani was nominated for the election of Senate Chairman.
Former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held separate meetings with JUI-F head Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo. During the meeting they detail discussed the expected election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Senate.
Source started that during the meeting Nawaz Sharif has given a suggestion that if PPP Raza Rabbani was nominated for the election of Senate Chairman then we have to support PPP. Alliance fully backed the suggestion and termed it a wise suggestion.
Sources futher stated that it was also decided in the meeting that if PPP nominate other person instead of Main Rana Rabbani then PML-N and its alliance will counter it. It was also decided that alliance parties first would complete its numbers and after that make consultation on this matter.
Later speaking to media persons after chairing a meeting of allies here on Thursday, Nawaz Sharif said that PML-N would bring its own candidate if the outing Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani was not considered. “We feel Raza Rabbani has been a good Senate’s chairman and we are ready to support him,” he said. Sharif also questioned Asif Ali Zardari’s political tactics in the recently-held Senate’s elections.
Speaking on this occasion, JUI-F head Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he would extend his full support to Nawaz Sharif in the election of Senate’s chairman and deputy chairman.
