Islamabad, : The eligibility of the newly-elected Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has been challenged in the Supreme Court.
The petitioners, Muhammad Iqbal Haider and Shahjahan Durrani, on Thursday filed a petition in the apex court raising objection that Sanjrani is too young for becoming acting president of the country.
The petitioners said as per the Constitution, the age of the president should be 45 whereas the newly-elected Senate chairman’s age is only 40. They further said that Sajrani becoming acting president would create constitutional crisis in the country so he should be barred from assuming the charge of Senate Chairman.
They also prayed the apex court to re-elect Senate chairman under the Article 41.
According to details, Sanjrani was elected as Senate chairman after bagging 57 votes against his opponent of PML-N leader, Raja Zafarul Haq, who bagged 46 votes on March 12.
