Islamabad, (TLTP): Expressing dismay over lackluster performance of Sindh government that failed to extend cooperation with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) probe into multi-billion scandal of fake bank accounts, the Supreme Court on Monday summoned Chief Secretary of the province and two others in the matter.
Submitting progress report before a three-member bench of the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in the case, the JIT head Ahsan Sadiq claimed that Chief Secretary and two other top officials of the province failed to provide required documents.
Rejecting Sadiq’s claim during the course of proceedings, advocate general Sindh Salman Talibuddin defended the government saying the JIT has asked the concerned authorities to produce details of each contract since 2008 with some 46 identified individuals and companies who entered into contract with the Sindh government.
Sadiq disclosed that Rs47 billion were transferred through thousands of fake accounts whereas as many as 600 companies and individuals are associated with the scam. Sadiq submitted that matter in hand is for more complex than fake account transactions, however, he expressed hope to fetch real beneficiaries of such fake accounts.
Summoning secretaries of the provincial government including chief secretary, secretary finance, secretary energy department and secretary of irrigation department, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said while issuing order that all the concerned should turn up before the court during next hearing with details sought by the FIA.
Turning down the request of Omni group CEO Anwar Majeed’s counsel to transfer his client to Karachi based hospital, the Chief Justice granted permission to Majeed’s medical treatment in Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology.
Meanwhile, in response to plea of National Bank of Pakistan seeking reopening of Omni group sugar mills, the bench issued notice to the parties of the case to appear before the court in Karachi during next date of hearing.
Later, hearing of the matter was adjourned till October 26.END
