ISLAMABAD: Expressing commitment to eradicate the menace of corruption from Pakistan on Sunday Chairman of the top anti-graft body Justice retired Javed Iqbal said people involved in corruption would be made accountable across the board without any discrimination.
While addressing a seminar in the presidency on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day Chairman of the Bureau informed that the NAB has recovered a total of Rs 3.64 billion over the last one year from corrupt elements saying those involved in the malicious propaganda against the NAB can no longer hoodwink the people.
During his address, Chairman NAB categorically said that he found out during visit across the country that instead of spending Rs500,000, Rs5 million were spent and in place of Rs5 million, Rs500 million were spent on the projects. He said those who owned 70cc motorbikes, presently own huge towers in Dubai.
Chairman NAB was of the view that national exchequer is under debt of Rs95 billion but no development in the country’s hospitals, cities and educational institutes reflexed substantial amount of Rs95 billion spending on the spot.
He questioned that what was wrong in asking about the spending of such money for the projects.
Speaking about those who have been in power for the last 30 years, the NAB chairman said, “Those people who have been in power for the last 30 to 35 years have forgotten that this is not the Mughal dynasty. Chairman NAB plainly said era of the Mughals has passed and now the common man and NAB have the power to question why the perpetrators have done illegal acts.
Turning towards the bureaucrats, Iqbal said, “The bureaucrats’ loyalty should be with the government. Every bureaucrat should go along with the government’s orders which are according to the law.”
Dispelling the impression that those under the custody of the Bureau were not being provided medical facilities Chairman NAB said everybody in the custody of the NAB was being provided facilities including medical.
