NAB to inquire Sharif in Jail over owning 20 bulletproof vehicles illegally

Accepting the plea of top anti-graft body on Tuesday an accountability court of Islamabad allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to inquire from convicted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over allegations that Sharif and his daughter added as many as 20 vehicle in personal convoy which were imported from Germany for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) conference in 2016.

Submitting before the court the NAB informed that a total of 34 bulletproof vehicles were imported from Germany for diplomats to attend the SAARC conference in 2016 saying no custom duty was paid on the vehicles.

The NAB requested the accountability court to allow for inquiry from Nawaz Sharif from Kot Lakhpat Jail regarding using of 20 bulletproof vehicles imported for the SAARC summit in 2016 for himself and his family.

Sharif is currently serving seven years sentence in Al-Alzizia Steel Mills case in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore. After brief hearing of the case, judge of the accountability court Islamabad accepted application of the NAB to inquire from Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat jail in the matter.

It is worth mentioning that anti-graft body already has inquired from ex-Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former principal secretary to the Prime Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad and former foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry in the matter.

The NAB has claimed that former foreign secretary approved the summary to import the bulletproof vehicles from Germany.

    IHC issues notices to respondents in Sharif bail application

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued notices to NAB, the Kot Lakhpat Jail superintendent and other parties while hearing Nawaz’s second application for bail on medical grounds in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case.

A division bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani heard the plea of Sharif and adjourned the proceedings for two weeks after issuing notices to respondents in the matter.

During the course of proceedings, responding to the query of Justice Kiyani, the counsel for Sharif submitted fresh medical reports of his client before the court saying that Sharif was undergoing medical treatment but at the same time he said that his client medical condition was not stable.
