CWC2019 – Pakistan beat Afghanistan by 3 wickets

Pakistan is still alive in cricket as it moved up to fourth place with nine points after defeating Afghanistan by three wickets in the 36th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Headingley on Saturday.

All rounder Imad Wasim held his nerve to guide Pakistan to a vital victory at Leeds that moved Pakistan above England into fourth place, maintaining hopes of reaching the World Cup semi-finals.

Score on the point table witnessed Australia on the top of the points table with 12 points and a net run rate of +0.906 followed by India and New Zealand, both with 11 points each whereas India are the only side who remain unbeaten in the ICC world Cup 2019.

Afghanistan 227-9 : Pakistan 230-7

However, England got out of the top four and are placed fifth while the fifth placed Bangladesh went down to the sixth.

Pakistan followed by Sri Lanka (7th), South Africa (8th) and West Indies (9th) whereas Afghanistan remain at the bottom of the table being the only winless side obtaining no point from their eight matches they played so far in the tournament.

PM Imran congratulates Pakistani team

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday congratulated the Pakistan team for keeping their nerve under pressure and in the end winning against Afghanistan.

PM Imran took to Twitter after Pakistan recorded a three-wicket thrilling win over Afghanistan. “Congratulations to the Pakistan team for keeping their nerve under pressure and in the end winning against Afghanistan – I also especially want to congratulate Afghanistan for the grit and determination with which they played against Pakistan today and against India earlier,”.
