Islamabad, (TLTP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Sunday said that Pakistan has made sacrifices for a peaceful region and the world while being at the forefront of the war against terrorism.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan military, Gen Bajwa passed the remarks while addressing the Royal College of Higher Military Education on “Emerging Security Environment and its Challenges, Security situation in the region and Pakistan’s contributions in war against terrorism.” The COAS is on a four-day official visit to Morocco.
“Pakistan being the front line country against terrorism, gave sacrifices and contributions against the global menace for a peaceful region and world,” said Gen Bajwa.
Both Pakistan and Morocco agreed to further deepen bilateral cooperation in myriad of fields, including security cooperation, joint training and counterterrorism domain. An understanding to this effect came during the army chief’s meetings with Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in Charge of the Administration of National Defence Abdellatif Loudiyi and Inspector General of Royal Armed Forces General Abdelfattah Lourak.
During the meetings, matters pertaining to mutual interest, bilateral defence, security cooperation, and regional peace and stability were discussed.
The two sides also agreed upon the tremendous potential for cooperation in multiple fields including security cooperation, joint training and counter-terrorism domain.
Talking to them, the Army Chief said that Pakistan has and will always stand with Morocco even in most difficult times.
Later, speaking at Royal College of Higher Military Education in Morocco, the army chief shared his views on “Emerging Security Environment and its Challenges, security situation in the region and Pakistan’s contributions in war against terrorism.
Earlier in January last, Ambassador of Morocco to Pakistan Muhammad Karmoune said that Morocco and Pakistan are revamping the ties and that the two nations have agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation at different levels. An agreement could be signed between the Port of Tangeir and Gwadar Port.
Karmoune said that Morocco–Pakistan Joint Business Council has been established and some of its members have visited Morocco to explore opportunities. The Joint Business Council facilitates the business community of both countries. Morocco also imports textile, handicrafts and other items from Pakistan.
Pakistan is a significant investor in Moroccan fertilizer production field where Pakistan’s Fauji Fertilizers has signed an agreement with Moroccan phosphate company with a capital of 800 million Moroccan dirham. Urea produced in the Pak-Morocco Phosphate Company in Moroccan city of Al-Jadida is entirely sent to Pakistan. A Pakistani company has also invested in Moroccan oil and gas exploration sector.
Ambassador Karmoun said that Pakistan can benefit from Morocco’s expertise in solar energy. In addition, tourism is an important driver of the Moroccan economy. Pakistan too has a great potential in this sector.
Morocco has many well-established ports and port of Tangier, with a capacity of 9 million containers a year, is among the largest ports. Highlighting Morocco’s geographical significance, the ambassador said that Morocco is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea with plenty of water and an agreement could be signed between the Port of Tangeir and Gwadar Port.
