Bar member Tariq Sharif calls for inquiry into prisoner escape from Sahiwal jail

ARIFWALA, (TLTP): Expressing grave concern over escape of assassin of former president Depalpur Tehsil Bar Association Mian Amjad Wattoo from Central Jail Sahiwal on Thursday, senior lawyer of Arifwala Tariq Sharif urged for judicial inquiry into the matter.

In November last, Advocate Mian Amjad Wattoo had been reported to present at his home at Depalpur when five accused persons including Saadi Shaikh, entered the house and attacked him with bricks and strangled him.

Talking to TLTP, Sharif alleged that Saadi Shaikh managed to escape from Central Jail Sahiwal on Thursday as a result of abetment of incumbent superintendent and other people at the helm of affairs.

Substantiating his claim, Tariq Sharif said that Saadi Shaikh escaped on March 26, 2020 from the jail while climbing 17 feet high wall of the prison after cutting electric wire through cutter.

Declaring escape of the killer in a dramatic fashion as criminal negligence of the jail authorities, Advocate Tariq Sharif informed that Central Jail Sahiwal houses several military courts convicted persons.

Tariq Sharif also alleged that ‘extra’ monthly income of incumbent Superintendent Jail Sahiwal is more than Rs1.5 million; likewise Deputy Superintendent income is Rs 500,000, whereas every Assistant Superintendent’s extra income other than salary is Rs 200,000 per month.

While demanding a judicial inquiry into the entire episode, Advocate Tariq Sharif claimed there are sufficient grounds to comprehend that Sahiwal jail authorities are behind the escape of killer of a member of the legal fraternity. TLTP tried to contact the jail superintendent Sahiwal many times to get his version on the allegations but all in vain.
