A senior journalist has served legal notice on a cellular company and sought damages to the tune of one million rupees for suspending his mobile service without any cogent reason.
The notice, served by Right to Information (RTI) activist and a journalist on the company, CMPak Limited – ZONG – through his attorney M Bilal, who pointed out that the company has committed the act of unfair trade practice by suspending his client’s mobile service without any cogent reason.
The notice stated that the company’s unprofessional and negligent behavior had caused severe mental trauma to his clients’ family and colleagues as he was completely cut off from the world.
It stated that the consumer had dialed a number from his contact list in the morning of February 17, 2021 but Zong postpaid connection service was unavailable to which the consumer contacted the call centre which alleged that mobile connectivity was blocked due to an illegal call.
The notice further said that the consumer then visited the company’s customer service centre where he was told another story that due to long phone calls, the mobile service was blocked/ suspended. However, the service was restored after 10 hours of its suspension.
“You are hereby called upon to compensate my client, failing which I have definite instructions by Our Client to initiate the civil and criminal legal proceedings in the competent court of law and for recovery of the Rs.1000,000/- (Rupees one million) damages against substantial aforementioned loss accrued purely at your risk and costs,” the notice reads.
