While suspending notification of International Islamic University Islamabad on Thursday Islamabad High Court restored the incumbent Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Dr.Qibla Ayaz as member Board of Governors of the University.
Advocate Umer Ijaz Gilani appeared on behalf of Dr.Qibla Ayaz before a single-member bench of Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan saying Dr Ayaz tenure as member Board of Governor of the international Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has been terminated illegally.
In April 29,2022, the IIUI management illegally removed Dr Qibla Ayaz from the Board of Governors of the IIUI vide Notification No.IIU/MS/22/85-3348 before the expiry of his tenure which will be completed on November 4,2022.
Making Pro-Chancellor of the IIUI and others as respondents, Advocate Umer Gilani, the counsel for Dr Qibla Ayaz challenged the notification before the IHC.
Substantiating the claim of his client on Thursday Advocate Umer Gilani contended that his client name has been removed from the Board of Governors with the sole aim of muffling dissent and escaping accountability.
Advocate Gilani urged the court to issue directives to respondents to ensure compliance with the letter as well as the spirit of the law saying Dr Qibla Ayaz is a distinguished scholar of Islamic Studies and an eminent researcher. He apprised the bench that Dr Ayaz was appointed to the Board of Governors of the IIUI where he served for a period of 1.5 years.
Advocate Umer Gilani further said that the IIUI administration notified name of Prof Dr Naseer Ahmed Akhtar who is Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Chairman, Department of Islamic Studies University of Lahore as member of the Borad of Governors of the IIUI in replacement of Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz . Advocate Gilani made a point saying that President of Pakistan is the Chancellor of the IIUI who may remove any person from the membership of any Authority after fulfilling the requirements mentioned in the University Ordinance. Taking serious note over illegal notification of the IIUI, the IHC suspended the notification and adjourned hearing of the matter till July 07.
