PTV barred from airing Pervaiz Elahi’s oath taking ceremony

State owned media is supposed to telecast ceremonies of presidency but surprisingly during last night Pakistan Television failed to disseminate prominently the ceremony where President Dr Arif Alvi administered oath of Punjab Chief minister to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at the President House.

In response to top court verdict to strike down Punjab Assembly deputy speaker’s ruling, President Dr Arif Alvi has administered the oath of Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi at the President House.

It was earlier decided to host the swearing-in ceremony at the Governor House but the ceremony was shifted to President House, Islamabad following Governor Balighur Rehman’s refusal to administer oath.

The Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) did not telecast the oath taking ceremony of Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi, which has left many viewers confused and angry.

It has been reported that many took to twitter to express their views. One user said, “This is what happens when you have somebody childish leading the Information Ministry”, another user remarked, “Pakistan Television is run with taxpayers’ money, the government should show some grace.”

During the ongoing oath ceremony of Pakistan’s biggest province’s chief minister, PTV continued playing a talk show. Commenting on the issue, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry alleged that Pervaiz Elahi’s swearing-in ceremony was not shown at the ‘directions’ of Marriyum Aurangzeb. The incident is being dubbed as a sheer journalistic misconduct on public tax-supported government TV.

Marriyum Aurangzeb has been accused of unprofessional conduct during several occasions, including Fawad Chaudhry’s claim that she plays Candy Crush, a mobile phone game, during her press conferences.  Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi’s swearing in ceremony was not telecasted by PTV resulting in many people accusing PTV of journalistic misconduct.
