24 Years After Her Passing, Nazia Hassan Continues to Reign as the Ultimate Pop Icon

Nazia Hassan was an extraordinarily talented singer who captivated fans with her powerful voice and vibrant performances.

Born on April 3, 1965, in Karachi, Nazia became an overnight sensation with her first song, “Aap Jaisa Koi.” This iconic track catapulted her to stardom, and her debut album, “Disco Deewane,” released in 1981, became a massive hit, resonating with audiences across 14 countries and setting new records in music sales.

Among her other popular songs are “Boom Boom,” “Dil Ki Lagi,” “Aankehin Churanay Walay,” and “Dosti,” all of which dominated music charts for an extended period. Nazia Hassan was rightfully crowned the “Queen of Pop,” a title that reflected her immense impact on the music industry.

Throughout her career, Nazia garnered numerous accolades, including Pakistan’s highest civilian award for her contributions to music, the Pride of Performance. Remarkably, at just 15 years old, she became one of the youngest Pakistani singers to receive the prestigious Filmfare Award for “Aap Jaisa Koi.”

Sadly, Nazia Hassan passed away on August 13, 2000, in London, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Despite her brief time in the limelight, her music continues to inspire and touch lives around the world.

Nazia married Karachi-based businessman Mirza Ishtiaq Baig on March 30, 1995. Her brother, Zoheb Hassan, also a singer and music composer, was a significant part of her musical journey. The siblings collaborated on numerous projects, with Zoheb co-producing many of Nazia’s albums, contributing greatly to her legacy.
