ISLAMABAD – In a historic first, the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) witnessed its first-ever Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony, with Chairman Justice (Retd) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui leading the tribute to Pakistan’s 79th year of independence. The event, held at the NIRC’s principal seat in Islamabad, was a powerful reaffirmation of the Commission’s commitment to social justice and economic equity in the country.
A gathering of Commission members, officials, and legal fraternity representatives attended the event. The participants stood with reverence as the national flag was raised, symbolizing the nation’s journey and the sacrifices of its founders. The event not only marked a new tradition for the NIRC but also highlighted the institution’s role in the national fabric.
Talking to gathering after hoisting the national flag, Justice (Retd) Shaukat Aziz said, “Alhamdulillah, I believe that August 14 is an occasion of Eid Saeed for every Pakistani. The importance and value of freedom should be asked from those who are slaves and oppressed, who cannot live with their rights and their citizenship. Pakistan is a gift from Allah Almighty, a blessing from Allah Almighty; we should appreciate it. With this in mind, we organized a flag hoisting ceremony at NIRC for the first time, and we all prayed together that Allah Almighty may progress Pakistan, grant it prosperity, protect it from the evil of its enemies, protect it from internal and external disturbances, and may Allah Almighty bless the people here, keep them in His protection and safety, and grant them happiness.”

Justice (Retd) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also offered a heartfelt prayer for the nation, a sentiment he later shared with a private television channel. “May Allah Almighty protect Pakistan from the evil eye and grant it refuge from internal turmoil and external evils, and may Pakistan remain secure and stable until the Day of Judgement, Ameen,” he said. The decision to initiate this ceremony was hailed by many as a significant step, as it connects the NIRC’s mission with the broader national spirit. Traditionally, such ceremonies are held at government buildings and institutions.
