ISLAMABAD: The School of International Law (SIL) Islamabad launched a Summer Internship Program for its law students this week. A batch of students commenced internships at the Office of the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP). The Additional Attorney General (AAG), Rashid Hafeez, will directly supervise and mentor the interns throughout the program.

SIL operates under the aegis of Ms Nida Tareen. The institution has built a reputation for supporting law students through practical, hands-on legal training. It consistently prioritizes bridging the gap between academic study and real-world legal practice. SIL believes theoretical knowledge alone cannot prepare students for the challenges of the legal profession. The institution therefore invests heavily in practical exposure opportunities for its students.

As part of its on-going efforts to develop future legal minds, SIL arranged this internship program. The program reflects the institution’s commitment to nurturing talent both in the classroom and in practical settings. SIL designed the initiative to give students direct access to the highest offices of Pakistan’s legal fraternity. This access allows students to observe and participate in legal processes rarely available to law students at an early stage of their careers.

The selected batch of students will spend their internship period working closely with senior legal professionals. They will gain first hand exposure to high-stakes public interest litigation. They will also engage with constitutional matters handled at the federal level. The program will further expose them to the intricacies of federal legal drafting. Students will observe how the principal law officer of the country office approaches complex legal questions affecting the State and its citizens.

The internship offers more than passive observation. Students will work under direct mentorship from AAG Rashid Hafeez. This mentorship structure ensures interns receive guidance from an experienced legal practitioner throughout their placement. The arrangement gives students insight into the strategic thinking behind major public interest cases. It also familiarizes them with the procedural and drafting standards expected at the federal level.

Ms Nida Tareen, Principal and Co-Founder of SIL, shared the news on LinkedIn following the commencement of the internships. She expressed pride in the milestone and outlined its significance for the students involved.

In her statement, she wrote: “We are proud to announce that students from the SIL have officially commenced their internship at the Office of the Attorney General for Pakistan. Our students are incredibly privileged to undergo this rigorous legal training under the direct supervision and mentorship of the AAG, Rashid Hafeez. This opportunity provides them with firsthand experience in high-stakes public interest litigation, constitutional matters, and federal legal drafting. We extend our sincere gratitude to Rashid Hafeez and the AG’s Office for fostering the next generation of legal minds in Pakistan. Best of luck to our interns as they step into the world of Public and Constitutional Law!”

Ms Tareen’s remarks underscore SIL’s broader mission to connect students with meaningful opportunities in the legal field. The institution continues to position itself as a platform where aspiring lawyers gain both academic grounding and practical exposure.

This latest internship program adds to SIL’s growing list of initiatives aimed at preparing students for careers in public and constitutional law. The institution expressed confidence that this experience will shape the interns’ understanding of the legal profession and strengthen their preparation for future roles in Pakistan’s legal fraternity.
