‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ : UN Habitat signs MoU with ICCI and others

UN Habitat Thursday signs MoU with Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, Prime Institute and Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries in wake of Prime Minister ‘Clean and Green Pakistan program’.

Stated in a press release issued here that UN Habitat aims to contribute to the “Clean and Green Pakistan programme launched by the Prime Minister of Pakistan to improve the health, hygiene, environment and sanitary conditions in the country over a period of five years as well as to boost local economic development on the cities by encouraging private sector participation in the civic development.
In this regard, a MoU has been signed with Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Prime Institute. UN Habitat intends to sign similar MoU’s with the major Metropolitan Corporations of the Country, this MoU is the first in the series.
UN Habitat considers that the signing of MoU between the partners provides an excellent opportunity for development of “Business Plans” for Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation to strengthen its revenue and income base.
This MoU will also support in creating successful models of solid and liquid waste management within the limits of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad under the patronage of Mayor.
In this regard UN Habitat can provide technical support, while the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries can mobilize financial support under the model of Corporate Social Responsibility.
Prime Institute can monitor the economic benefits of such interventions. With the successful results of this partnership, the collaboration can be expended into other areas such as providing clean drinking water, establishment of waste to energy projects etc.
UN Habitat is building the capacity of municipalities through a Municipal Business Planning Pilot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province targeting one city.
Municipal Business Plan is the first ever municipal business plan developed by any of the Town/Tehsil Municipal Administration of the Province. The Plan provides strategic guidance to the Town Council, Administration and Town Nazim of Town Municipal Administration I, Peshawar from 2018-19 to 2024-25. The pilot main aim is to test the challenges in implementing improved business planning, revenue collection, and cost reduction.
