Musharraf granted more time to record statement

Khudayar Mohla –
While accepting plea of former army chief and President Pervez Musharraf in high treason case on medical grounds, Special Court on Thursday issued notices to government over acquittal application of the accused in the matter for June 12.

Appearing before a three-member bench led by incumbent Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Syeda Tahira Safdar, counsel for Musharraf, advocate Salman Safdar apprised the court that his client is unable to travel to Pakistan due to his precarious health condition.

It is worth mentioning that Musharraf was scheduled to record his statement before the Special Court in pursuance of the top court directives in order to complete the treason trial.

During the course of proceedings, Salman Safdar urged the court to adjourn hearing of the case until end of Ramazan. The application also stated that in light of the life-threatening medical condition of the petitioner, supported by medical certificate and photographic evidences, his absence was caused by factors beyond human control.

Special Court had indicted Musharraf in March 2014, however, he left for Dubai during 2016 to get medical treatment but never returned to Pakistan.
