Days after a Pakistani American woman was abducted from Islamabad international airport, Punjab police have registered FIR in the matter upon intervention of Human Rights Ministry’ department National Commission on the Status of Women against former husband of the woman under the charges of wrongfully confinement his ex-wife in Rawalpindi.
A lawyer Shabnam Nawaz has filed complaint on behalf of the abductee woman Wajiha Farooq Swati before Secretary National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) on November 02, 2021.
She alleged that the Rizwan Habib, former husband of her client Wajiha Farooq Swati abducted her client who visited Pakistan to settle some property issues with him while she landed in Islamabad airport in Flight BA-0261 along with her sister’s son from UK on October 16, 2021.
She further informed the NCSW that her client scheduled return flight was set to depart at 00:20 hrs on Friday, October 22nd flight BA-0260 from Islamabad Airport, however, she said her client Ms. Swati never boarded but her sister`s son boarded the same flight alone for UK.
Advocate Shabanam Nawaz disclosed that local Police failed to launch FIR and to recover the abductee Wajiha Farooq Swati and requested the NCSW to protect her client in pursuance of the mandate of the Commission and to recover the abductee woman from the clutches of Rizwan Habib.
After examining contents of the complaint, Secretary NCSW Arif Anwar Baloch asked City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi to ensure registration of FIR in the matter amid recovering the allegedly abducted Wajiha Farooq Swati. Citing the complainant who is son of the abductee, the Secretary said the complainant has informed the Commission that his mother is a US Citizen whereas Rizwan Habib of Rawalpindi has abducted his mother on 16th October 2021.
Secretary of the NCSW also communicated to the CPO Rawalpindi that as per the complainant, local Police neither registered the FIR nor recovered the abductee. He further said that the complainant approached the Commission for recovery of his mother and further legal action against the accused person. The Commission under the National Commission on the Status of Women Act, 2012 is empowered to hear complaints against violation of the rights of women and for their protection.
After intervention of the NCSW the local Police has registered FIR 577/21 under section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code in Police Station Morgah Rawalpindi and started investigation in the matter.
