LAHORE, : Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has remarked public health is not priority of the government.
He remarked “ Shahbaz Sharif is very fond of getting his picture printed.
He expressed these remarks while presiding over a 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) Lahore registry during course of hearing of suo motu notice on throwing contaminated water into river here Saturday.
Chief secretary Punjab appeared in the court.
CJP remarked this is matter of life and death of people and you people run advertisement of performance. Run the advertisement of work which has not been done by you.
He observed “ government spent billion of rupees on Orange Train project but no attention is being paid what is going on. You please run orange train, build motorway but you should pay attention to the health of common man too;
He remarked “ its seems as if health of people is not priority of government. Chief Secretary, Chief secretary and Wasa should tell us why the attention is not being paid towards it. Chief minister or officers have visited the hospital for how many time.
He further observed “ why I should not go to hospital. Some one has to inquire about their heath. How the people are crying. This is state of affairs in terms of governance. If those whose job it is will not do it then some one else will do it.
He inquired how much Mehmood Booti treatment plant will cost.
The amicus curiae Ayesha Hamid told the court that Rs 9 billion will be spent while 10 billion will be spent on Shadbagh.
CJP inquired how much money will be spent on Orange Train project. ,
Chief secretary said Rs 180 billion will be spent.
Aitzaz Ahsan said he is saying wrong. Rs 235 billion will spent on it.
CJP remarked this is state of affairs that picture of Shahbaz Sharif is printed on date sheet. If they have to show performance then they should do work.
He remarked if Shahbaz Sharif is too much fond of getting his picture printed then he should appear before us and clarify his position. He should remember we can order NAB to hold inquiry into advertisement matters of Punjab government.
The court while summoning PC-1 in respect of clean water projects from chief secretary Punjab has adjourned the hearing of the case till March 31.
