PTBF chief seeks action against police “highhandedness”

RAWALPINDI, (TLTP): President Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF) Ijazur Rehman has requested Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr Fehmida Mirza to take notice of police highhandedness against him.

Talking to TLTP, he claimed that Civil Lines police raided his Leisure City Bowling Club located at Jinnah Park, Rawalpindi, and arrested his son in the name of violation of the Loudspeaker Act.

Ijaz, who is Pakistan’s most seasoned international bowler and had won national tenpin bowling championship thrice in his glittering career, told this while talking to editor sports TLPT (The Law Pakistan Today) on Wednesday.

He further said, “My son Shahrukh and others were enjoying tenpin bowling when all of a sudden police raided and took my son and others to police station in the name of the Loudspeaker Act violation, which is completely incorrect. I have been running the bowling club for the last 20 months or so and we never for a while even tried to misuse loudspeakers. We know rules and regulations and sensitivity of the area, as large number of masses including families come to arena and enjoy indoor activities.”

Ijaz further said the matter of fact is that members of an influential family came at Tuesday night to the club and wanted discount. “Upon refusal, they warned us of dire consequences and soon after their departure, police party raided and arrested not only my son but also those who were enjoying bowling at the club,” he further claimed.

Ijaz said that he managed to get his son released on Wednesday after paying Rs 25,000 fine. “I request the Prime Minister, chief minister and IPC minister to take notice of police highhandedness and provide me justice. We never raised sound system volume to such an extent that sound goes out of park limits, as we are aware of the fact that highly important dignitaries reside nearby. I reserve the right to start legal proceedings against Civil Lines police for disturbing indoor sports activities, harassing and arresting my son. I am filing a petition with high court and I am very much confident that I will get justice,” Ijaz concluded.

Meanwhile, Civil Lines police spokesman, when contacted, was of the view that residences of judges and high profile personalities are adjacent to Jinnah Park. “We took action on the complaints of residents,” he concluded.
