Lahore, : Supreme Court Saturday ordered to shut down companies that were supplying substandard potable water.
A three member bench led by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar conducted hearing of suo-motto cases in substandard water, milk and chicken meat. The Chief Justice expressed resentment over failure to present Mustafa Ramday, court assistant before the bench.
DG Food Punjab, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal submitting the reply told the court that out of total 1150 registered companies, 1053 were functioning and 97 have shut down the business. He informed that results of 578 companies are correct, 340 companies do not meet standard while result of 135 companies has yet to receive.
Chief Justice ordered to shut down all the companies, which were supplying substandard drinking water. He further said that quality of water of all companies must be checked after every three months. The court remarked that we cannot allow our children to drink polluted water.
During hearing of ajinomoto and used cooking oil, the Chief Justice expressed resentment over absence of court assistant Mustafa Ramday. The court directed Advocate General Punjab to summon Mustafa Ramday from Chief Minister House.
The court imposed ban on sale of ajinomoto for being injurious to health. The court assistant Faisal Masood submitted report in the court. He told that germs were not found in chicken meat. He said issues relating to chicken were relating to Zabieeh and packing not the meat.
Chief Justice remarked that it was welcoming that there was no defect in meat. He said if cleanliness measures are adopted then situation can be brought under control. The court served notices to owners of packaged and formula milk companies and sought reply. The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 09.
