Time to support Ankara for peace in Eurasian Region

It is the best time for Turkey to solace the present spate of catastrophic situation in Eurasian region where Moscow and Kyiv are engaged from February 24 as Russo-Ukrainian War resulting infringement right to life of Ukrainians. The situation has been reported extremely vulnerable in Ukraine, with essential supplies and services disrupted and thousands fleeing from the vicinity.

Such circumstances require NATO member Turkey which shares a maritime border with Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea and has good ties with both so the Turkey’s diplomatic contributions to de-escalate growing tension in the region.

Although Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has urged his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine, open humanitarian corridors and sign a peace agreement but its time to move faster on the diplomatic front and to make the talks successful as Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba have agreed to meet on Thursday in Turkey. Turkish top diplomat Mevlut Cavusoglu has been reported saying in what would be the first potential talks between the two officials since Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24.

When Russia passing through a swear criticism at the moment, Ankara has offered to host talks and has opposed sanctions against Moscow. During a one-hour phone call to his counterpart Putin a day ago Turkish President Erdogan offered Turkey was ready to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. President Erdogan reported saying an immediate ceasefire will not only ease humanitarian concerns in the region but also give the search for a political solution an opportunity.

Turkish diplomat Mevlut Cavusoglu communication through Twitter on Monday is an expression that warmer temps could possibly thaw recent ice between the two countries as he expressed about the possible talks saying, “Hope this step will lead to peace and stability,”. The  talks were set to take place on the side of an international diplomatic forum in Antalya, in southern Turkey.

Regional powers should realize that Russia-Ukraine conflict will lead to severely impact global economy so its time to support the Ankara’s efforts to de-escalate situation in the Eurasian region.
