Govt notifies committee on child protection plans in ICT

While implementing certain provisions of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Child Protection Act 2018 on Tuesday, Child Protection Advisory Board on Tuesday formed a sub-committee to prepare rehabilitation plans for vulnerable children seeking care and protection in the capital.

During its maiden meeting of the Child Protection Advisory Board under the Act, Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) has decided to constitute a sub-committee which will propose initiatives including establishing the Child Protection Institute in addition to raise awareness to prevent child abuse and begging in Islamabad.

According to composition, Dr.Ambreen Ahmad is chairperson of the committee, Sharafat Ali Chaudhry advocate, MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, Dr. Rubina Fareen, Ashfaq William are members and Muhammad Hassan Mangi is convener of the committee.

The sub-committee will facilitate for setting up and monitoring of Child Protection Institute, assist in suggestion criteria for selection and screening of Child Protection Officer from the existing officers and hiring of new officers.

The committee will also assist human rights ministry in preparation of guidelines, SOPs, of the Child Protection Institute, preparation of short term and long term plans for rehabilitation of the children in need of care and protection in ICT.

Besides, the committee will facilitate the ministry in planning and coordination for capacity building of the staff of the child protection institute in addition to support for awareness campaigns on child abuse. The committee will also play its role in linking up with the health providers (Doctors) for preventing and monitoring child abuse.
