PBC enrolls 339 advocates as Supreme Court lawyers

After securing enrolment as Supreme Court lawyers as many as 339 more advocates are competent to represent remedy seekers in top court of Pakistan.

Secretary Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Gulzar Ahmad informed to President Supreme Court Bar Association, all the Presidents of High Court Bar Association and all secretaries Provincial Bar Councils including Islamabad Bar Council through an official communication on Tuesday.

Giving detail of recently enrolled advocates for Supreme Court the PBC Secretary Gulzar Ahmad said, “The Enrolment Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council from 12th November 2021 to November 2022 under the Chairmanship of Justice Qazi Faez Isa and its members Syed Qalb-i-Hassan and Azim Nazir Tarrer, who , upon his appointment as Federal Law Minister was substituted by Abid Saqi considered the  525 applications and enrolled 339 Advocates of the Supreme Court (ASC) “.

The Enrolment Committee, after considering some 525 applications, enrolled 339 advocates. The advocates who were enrolled include 67 from Karachi, 82 from Peshawar, 35 from Lahore, 21 from Multan and Bahawalpur, 33 advocates from Islamabad, 51 from Rawalpindi and 50 from Quetta. A very large number of applications pending for many years, were disposed of. In comparison, during the previous five years (2016 to 2021) 759 applications were considered and 468 ASCs were enrolled.

“The Enrolment Committee will be commencing the second round of meeting throughout Pakistan to consider the remaining and fresh applications, Therefore, all eligible Advocates of the High Court who want to be considered for enrolment as ASCs should submit their application,” Secretary PBC Gulzar Ahmad concluded.
