Experts call for long-term energy policies and solar incentives

At the second edition of the “Navigating the Energy Transition for a Sustainable Future in Pakistan” workshop, a panel discussion on “Political Economy Challenges for Energy Transition” shed light on the critical issues facing Pakistan’s energy sector.

The discussion featured Muhammad Ali (CEO, MAGM Ventures Pvt Ltd), Nida Rizwan Farid (Aerospace Engineer & Energy Efficiency Consultant), and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi (Former Prime Minister of Pakistan), with Mueen Batlay (CEO, Think Build Scale Pvt Ltd) serving as the moderator.

The panel of experts identified several key challenges and proposed viable solutions to address them. They emphasized the necessity for long-term policymaking over short-term reactive measures to ensure a sustainable energy future for Pakistan. One of the main points of discussion was the importance of incentivising solar energy rather than imposing taxes on it. The experts argued that solar energy not only contributes to greener energy production but also offers significant long-term economic benefits.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, highlighted the need for a stable and forward-thinking policy framework to attract investment and foster innovation in the energy sector. Muhammad Ali and Nida Rizwan Farid underscored the potential of solar energy to transform Pakistan’s energy landscape if appropriately incentivised.

The workshop concluded with a call to action for policymakers to prioritize sustainable and long-term strategies, ensuring that Pakistan can effectively navigate its energy transition and secure a greener, more prosperous future.
