As the sun rises on 14 August 2024, Pakistan stands at the threshold of its 77th Independence Day. This auspicious occasion is marked by a profound sense of pride, unity, and reflection, and commemorates our liberation from colonial rule. 77 years ago, driven by an unshakeable belief in the ideals of freedom, justice, and self-determination, our forefathers embarked on an audacious journey towards sovereignty. As Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah said, “With faith, discipline, and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve.”
Today, as we honour their legacy, we look at the extraordinary progress we have made as a nation. From the bustling metropolis of Karachi to the serene valleys of Swat, from the vibrant culture of Lahore to the historical grandeur of Peshawar, Pakistan’s tapestry is woven with threads of diversity and an indomitable will to forge ahead despite all odds. Independence Day is a time to reaffirm our dedication to the principles of democracy, equality, and justice. Liaquat Ali Khan’s declaration, “The foundation of our state is laid upon liberty and equality,” is present in our commitment to create a society where every citizen, irrespective of their gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background, has the opportunity to thrive.
On this Independence Day, we are not only celebrating our sovereignty and freedom but also the unyielding spirit and remarkable resilience of the people of Pakistan. We have faced natural calamities, economic challenges, social upheavals, and political instability, but our resolve has never wavered. From devastating earthquakes and floods to energy crises and security threats, each obstacle has only served to strengthen our collective spirit, propelling us towards a promising future. By overcoming terrorism, advancing women’s rights, and striving for educational reforms, we have demonstrated our resilience and unity.
Externally, Pakistan has effectively deterred against security threats, particularly those emanating from India, through steadfast defence preparedness and strategic diplomacy. Despite periods of tensions and conflicts, Pakistan has maintained a robust defence posture, ensuring the security and sovereignty of its borders. Through advancements in military technology, strategic alliances, and a commitment to regional stability, Pakistan has demonstrated its capability to safeguard its national interests and protect its people.
Seven decades into independence, our nation stands tall on the pillars of progress. We have made significant strides in various fields – IT, healthcare, infrastructure, and aerospace. Our universities are nurturing bright minds, our healthcare system is aiming to meet global standards, and our technological advancements are placing us on the global map of innovation. Moreover, the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has opened new avenues for economic growth, fostering regional connectivity, and enhancing our strategic significance on the international stage.
As we commemorate the efforts of our forefathers and look ahead, let us not forget the power of our youth, the torchbearers of tomorrow. With over 60% of our population being under the age of 30, Pakistan is blessed with a vibrant and dynamic younger generation, brimming with ideas, creativity, and innovation. Our young entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, and activists are already making waves globally, proving that Pakistan is a land of immense talent and potential.
Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah said, “It is only with united effort and faith in our destiny that we shall be able to translate the Pakistan of our dreams into reality.” Our natural beauty, from the majestic peaks of the Himalayas to the fertile plains of Punjab, is a testament to the richness of our land. In recent years, tourism in Pakistan has increased by over 300%, drawing visitors from around the globe to experience our breath-taking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. This growth in tourism not only boosts our economy but also highlights the necessity of sustainable practices to protect the natural and historical treasures that attract millions. By embracing renewable energy, reducing pollution, and fostering sustainable agricultural practices, we can ensure that future generations inherit a Pakistan that is not only prosperous but also environmentally vibrant as well.
As the green and white flag of Pakistan flutters high, let us express our gratitude for the freedom we cherish today. Let us be inspired by the legacy of those who came before us to continue building a nation that stands as a symbol of hope, resilience, and progress. On this 77th Independence Day, let us renew our pledge to work tirelessly for a brighter future, drawing strength from our past and optimism from our present. Pakistan Zindabad!
