ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) was informed on Tuesday that the degree of its member, Ahsan Bhoon, had been verified twice by the University of the Punjab and found genuine, as the commission took up a complaint seeking an inquiry into his qualifications.

The Secretary of the commission told the members that the complaint had been referred to the Secretary of the Pakistan Bar Council for comments. In its reply, the Bar Council said Mr. Bhoon’s degree, as a returned candidate, had been verified by the Returning Officer, the Attorney General for Pakistan, for elections to the Pakistan Bar Council, first in 2021 and again in 2026. On both occasions, the University of the Punjab verified the degree as genuine.

According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan , the complaint was filed by Capt. (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan against Mr. Bhoon, an advocate and member of the commission. It sought “urgent verification and inquiry” into his educational qualifications, enrollment and professional credentials. The Secretary placed the complaint before the commission during a meeting held at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad.

The press release did not say whether the commission took any further decision on the complaint, or whether it formally disposed of the matter after hearing the Bar Council’s response.

The complaint came up during a meeting of the JCP for the High Court of Sindh, which began at 1:30 pm in the conference room of the Supreme Court building. The agenda item was the extension of the term of the constitutional benches of the Sindh High Court.

The commission renominated all existing judges of the constitutional benches as judges of those benches and extended the term of the benches for one year. The decision was taken by a majority of 14 to 1. The press release did not name the member who did not support the decision, nor did it give reasons for the dissent.

With signature of Dr. Shahid Hussain Kamboyo, Director Public Relations of the Supreme Court of Pakistan the proceedings have been conveyed in a press release (PR No. 164/2026) dated Oct 13,2026.
