Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa Saturday underscored the pivotal role of modern technology in reforming the nation’s justice system, urging an end to the practice of escalating every matter to the Supreme Court for resolution.

Speaking at an event held at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA), following the inauguration of a training program for the district judiciary, CJP Isa emphasized the need for substantial consequences for those who engage in frivolous litigations. He stressed the importance of uniformity in imposing costs, ensuring a fair and consistent approach across all judges. In an effort to enhance public trust in the judiciary, CJP Isa highlighted the reliance of the Supreme Court on the district judiciary. He pointed out that the initial interaction with litigants occurs at the district level, and strengthening this foundation would alleviate the caseload on higher courts. Acknowledging the gradual integration of technology into the justice system, CJP Isa equated technology to a tool as significant as a pen for knowledge. He expressed optimism that technology’s implementation, already underway in the Supreme Court, would bring additional transparency and efficiency, thereby reducing case backlogs.
Highlighting his commitment to transparency, CJP Isa shared that, as Chief Justice, he directly broadcasted proceedings of the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act case. He believed that direct broadcasting allows the general public to witness justice being served firsthand, fostering confidence and understanding. Appreciating the direct linkage of the district judiciary with the FJA through the internet, CJP Isa expressed contentment with the technological advancements. He shared insights into his role as the FJA chairman, operating under a robust board overseeing the training of around 3,200 judges nationwide.
CJP Isa acknowledged the supervisory role of high courts over the subordinate judiciary, urging chief justices of high courts to ensure the training of court staff at judicial academies. In a holistic approach, he advocated for the inclusion of environmental protection awareness in the training of judges, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation for future generations. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s vision encompasses technological innovation, judicial reform, and environmental consciousness, envisioning a justice system that not only functions efficiently but also commands public trust, transparency, and fairness.
