CJP Yahya Afridi Administers Oath to Newly Appointed SC Judges

Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Justice Salah Uddin Panhwar, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim have been appointed as regular judges while Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb has been appointed for one year.Reading the oath content, following the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), every judge stated, “As judge Supreme Court of Pakistan I will discharge my duties and perform my functions honestly to the best of my abilities and faithfully in accordance with Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the law”

The oath-taking ceremony was originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb 13. However, it was postponed till Friday due to a delay in the issuance of the notification of the new judges as it was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice late at night. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi administered the oath to the judges. The ceremony was attended by judges of the apex court and lawyers.

Meanwhile acting Chief Justices of of Islamabad, Sindh, Peshawar high courts have also  taken oath of their offices on Friday. Soon after the Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi administered the oath of seven newly appointed judges in Supreme Court President Asif Ali administered the oath of Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court. The oath-taking ceremony, held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. According to official notification, President of Pakistan appointed Justice Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar as acting chief justice of the IHC with effect from the day he takes oath of his office till the appointment of regular Chief Justice of the IHC.

Separately, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath to Justice S.M Atiq Shah as acting Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC). The swearing-in ceremony, held at Governor’s House in Peshawar, was attended by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Judges of the Peshawar High Court, lawyers and officials also attended the ceremony.

Similarly, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori administered the oath to acting Chief Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar at Governor’s House in Karachi. Justice Zafar Rajput, Justice Zafar Iqbal, Justice Yousuf Syed, Justice Amjad Sahato, head of the Constitutional Bench Justice Agha Faisal, and Justice Sana Akram Minhas also attended the ceremony.
