ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notification revising the transport monetisation allowance for judicial officers and high court officers, increasing the allowance rates for officers in Grades 17 to 22 with effect from July 1, 2026.
The notification, issued by the Registrar’s Office of the Islamabad High Court, outlines a graded revision of the monthly transport allowance based on the officers’ respective pay scales. Under the revised structure, officers in Grade 22, the highest grade covered under the notification will now receive a transport monetisation allowance of Rs250,000 per month.
National media reproted that for officers in Grade 21, the allowance has been fixed at Rs195,000 per month, while Grade 20 officers will receive a revised amount of Rs175,000 monthly. Officers placed in Grade 19 have been allocated an allowance of Rs150,000 per month under the new notification.
The revision also covers officers in the lower grades within the specified range. Grade 18 officers will now receive Rs100,000 per month, while those in Grade 17 – the lowest grade covered by the notification – will be entitled to a transport monetisation allowance of Rs60,000 per month.
According to the notification, the revised rates apply retroactively from July 1, 2026, meaning eligible officers will receive the adjusted allowance from the start of the current financial year.
The notification further clarified that the additional financial burden resulting from the revised allowances would be met from the budget already allocated for the Islamabad High Court and the District Judiciary for the financial year 2026-27. No supplementary budgetary request has been indicated in the notification, suggesting that the increased expenditure will be absorbed within existing allocations for the judiciary in the federal capital.
The transport monetisation allowance is a benefit provided in lieu of an official vehicle, allowing eligible officers to receive a fixed monthly cash amount instead of being issued a government vehicle for official and personal use. Such allowances are periodically revised across various government departments to reflect changes in fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, and overall inflationary pressures.
The move brings the transport allowance for judicial officers and high court officers under the Islamabad High Court in line with revisions that are periodically carried out for civil servants and judicial officers across other tiers of government. The notification did not specify whether similar revisions are being considered for other categories of court staff or for judicial officers outside the specified grade range.
The Islamabad High Court’s Registrar’s Office is responsible for issuing administrative notifications related to court staff and judicial officers, including matters pertaining to pay, allowances, and service conditions, as part of its role in managing the court’s internal administration.
