ISLAMABAD, (TLTP): Islamabad High Court on Friday rejected pre-arrest bail plea of former managing director and chairman Pakistan Television Dr.Shahid Masood.
Dr. Masood is facing corruption charges of Rs 38 million from state-run television as the prosecution said in its story that the former managing director entered into an agreement with a fake company for coverage of cricket matches played in Pakistan due to which the PTV incurred heavy financial losses.
Trial proceedings in the matter are under adjudication before Central Judge Islamabad Kamran Basharat Mufti who earlier canceled interim bail of Dr.Shahid Masood to which the accused’s counsel approached the Islamabad High Court for pre-arrest bail.
Appearing before a single-member bench of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani in Islamabad High Court on Friday Shah Khawar contended that Dr.Masood had not been nominated in the First Information Report (FIR), lodged in the corruption case.
However, the PTV’s counsel Muhammad Nazeer Jawad made a point that another accused of the corruption in the same matter had deposited Rs10 million after his bail application was rejected.
After hearing both the sides arguments, the IHC turned down pre-arrest bail application of anchorperson Dr.Shahid Masood on merit.
