NCSW seeks report over murder of UK-Kashmiri national

While performing judicial function, the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar sought a comprehensive report from Islamabad Police relating to murder of a UK-Kashmiri national Farooq Ali in a hotel.

It is pertinent to mention that Section 11 of the NCSW Act 2012 empowers the Commission to summon any person for production of documents under the Civil Procedure Code 1908. The Commission has summoned SP Investigation with the concerned Investigation Officer of the Islamabad Capital Police (ICT) and conducted hearing of the matter.

The NCSW twitted, “While hearing a complaint NCSW exercised powers of the Civil Court, presided by Chairperson @NilofarBkhtiar & called for record & in-person attendance of @ICT_Police in the Ramada Murder case. The police were directed to complete investigation & submit report at the earliest”.

In response to the complaint of Dr Rehiana Ali,  sister of the allegedly murdered Farooq Ali, the NCSW Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar has summoned the Police officials in the case and conducted a preliminary hearing of the matter. During the hearing, Arif Anwar Baloch Secretary of the Commission and Legal Advisor Sharafat Ali Chaudhry were also present.

The Commission summoned the ICT Police officials saying, “Dr.Rehiana Ali has filed a complaint before the Commission regarding murder of her brother at Ramada by Wyndham, Islamabad. The Complainant has alleged that despite a lapse of nine months, the ICT Police has refrained from arresting and investigating effectively any suspect in this case and during the process of getting justice the complainant has faced harassment at the hands of various police officials”.

During adjudication of the matter, Nilofar Bakhtiar expressed dismay over lackluster performance of the police terming the heinous crime as causing embarrassment for Pakistan’s justice system.

After a brief hearing, the Commission asked the ICT Police to file a comprehensive report including a complete record of the case before the Secretary NCSW during the next date of hearing. Later, the Commission adjourned the matter sine die.
