Pakistan wants to enhance mutual cooperation with EU: COAS

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that Pakistan values its relations with the European Union (EU) and earnestly looks forward to enhancing mutual cooperation based on common interests.

The army chief who is on an official visit to Belgium, said this during a meeting with European External Action Services (EEAS) Secretary General Stefano Sannio and EU Military Committee Chairman General Claudio Graziano, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Friday.

A statement issued by the military’s media wing said that General Bajwa discussed matters of mutual interest, overall regional security, the Afghan situation, bilateral relations between Pakistan and the European Union with the EU officials.

The hosts appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts aimed at peace and stability in the region and pledged to play their role for increased collaboration with Pakistan at all levels.

Separately, General Bajwa called on Mrs Ludivine Dedonder, Minister of Defence, Admiral Michel Hofman, Chief of Defence, and Major General Pierre Gerard, Chief of Staff of the Land Component, Belgium.

During the meetings matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation and bilateral relations were discussed. Both sides agreed to further optimise military-to-military ties particularly in defence production, training, Counter Terrorism and intelligence domains. The COAS expressed that Pakistan values its bilateral relations with Belgium.

Belgian dignitaries acknowledged the professionalism of Pakistan armed forces. They also appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region and reiterated earnest desire for enhancing bilateral cooperation in all domains.
