ISLAMABAD: Since its inception, the Directorate of Legal Education (DLE), under the aegis of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), has been working to strengthen the regulatory compliance framework and elevate academic standards across law-teaching institutions in the country.
In a major milestone on Thursday, PBC Vice Chairman Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti formally presented the Directorate’s Biannual Progress Report (2024–2026) to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
High-level delegation calls on Chief Justice of Pakistan
A high-level delegation of the Pakistan Bar Council, led by Vice Chairman Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti, called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan at the Supreme Court. The delegation comprised PBC member Saqib Akram Gondal, PBC Secretary Gulzar Ahmad, and Director of the DLE Saqib Faraz. During the meeting, the delegation formally presented the Biannual Progress Report (2024–2026) of the Council’s Directorate of Legal Education and briefed the Chief Justice on ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of legal education and enforcing professional standards across the country.
Curriculum modernization and training discussed
Discussions during the meeting centered on mechanisms for the oversight of law institutions, curriculum modernization in line with evolving societal requirements, and professional development through continuing legal education and structured practical training opportunities for young lawyers.
CJP underscores role of legal education
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi remarked that a sound foundation in legal education is essential to fostering a capable legal profession and upholding the effective administration of justice.
He further underscored the importance of integrating practical skills and professional ethics into legal instruction, stressing the need for sustained cooperation among the Bar, educational institutions and key stakeholders to groom future legal practitioners. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve between the Judiciary and the Bar to continue joint efforts toward comprehensive reforms in Pakistan’s legal education sector.
