Islamabad, March 11: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday announced to support Balochistan independent candidate Sadiq Sanjrani for the Senate chairman slot. The creditable sources have disclosed that PPP has got the support of 56 senators.
However, talking to persons, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that it will field Saleem Mandviwalla on the deputy chairman seat. He said the party has decided to field Sadiq Sanjrani and Saleem Mandviwalla for Senate chairman and deputy chairman slots, respectively.
Speaking to the media alongside Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Bilawal said the nomination of Sanjrani was aimed to help resolve the problems facing the people of the province. Pakistan’s Senate comprises of 104 members and to replace the outgoing Senate chairman Raza Rabbani with their candidates, the mainstream parties need at least 53 votes.
The groups of independent senators-elect from Balochistan and Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata) are believed to play a crucial role in the upcoming election for the offices of Senate chairman and deputy chairman.
According to details, a consultation meeting of PPP was held under the chairmanship of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. During the meeting all leaders of agreed to support Balochistan independent candidate Sadiq Sanjrani for the Senate chairman slot and Saleem Mandviwalla for deputy chairman slot.
After the meeting Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizinjo has said now it was making history that despite of majority PPP is favouring our candidate for the slot of Chairman Senate.
He stated that our stigma of inferior would definitely reduced after the said achievement.
On the other hand, the sources have claimed PPP has got the 56 senators support.
It was worth to mention here that a delegation under the leadership of CM Balochistan has also held meeting with PTI chairman Imran Khan.
