ISLAMABAD: A final-year law student at the School of Law, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, has completed an approximately 40-hour E-Course for Law Professionals conducted by the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA), describing the training as instrumental in sharpening her understanding of core litigation and dispute resolution skills.
Maryam Riaz, who is pursuing her LLB at QAU, said the course helped her grasp the finer aspects of advocacy and pleadings, alongside civil and criminal trial procedure. She said it also strengthened her understanding of cross-examination technique and the principles governing the admissibility and relevancy of evidence.
According to her, the curriculum further covered execution of decrees, an overview of family laws in Pakistan, and the emerging intersection of artificial intelligence and legal ethics, in addition to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
Notably, Riaz clarified that the course was not formally linked to her internship at the FJA, but said it nonetheless proved valuable in building her foundational legal skills.
Academic Background and Aspirations
In a statement shared on her social media account, Riaz described herself as a committed law student striving to build a career in the legal profession, with an emphasis on applying legal principles to practical challenges. She said her coursework has spanned constitutional law, criminal justice, contract law and equity principles, and that she has also taken part in moot court competitions during her academic journey.
She added that she continues to seek opportunities for growth through internships, research work, and engagement with experienced legal professionals, with the broader aim of contributing to a justice system grounded in equity.
Acknowledgement to FJA Faculty
Ms Riaz extended appreciation to the FJA faculty members who conducted the course, naming Mahmood Azam, Nadia Syed and Bushra Kokeb among those whose guidance she said contributed to her learning experience.
The Federal Judicial Academy periodically offers such e-courses aimed at equipping law students and young professionals with practical exposure to litigation, procedural law and alternative dispute resolution, ahead of their entry into legal practice.
