Urgent Plea to ICJ: Dr. Rehiana Ali calls for justice against Israeli atrocities on Palestinians

Expressing her grief over atrocities on Palestinians, a Consultant Neurologist Dr Rehiana Ali urged for justice over massacre of more than 30,000 Palestinians including a large number of children and women.

Dr. Rehiana Ali is sister of a UK national Biochemist Farooq Ali who was allegedly murdered while staying in Ramadah Hotel Islamabad during March 2023. A judicial inquiry is underway before Additional District & Sessions Judge Islamabad where the deceased’s sister is trying to seek justice.

Sending a letter through email to Justices of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) She said, “ I hope this email finds you well and importantly, resolute in the face of what will be immense diplomatic pressure from countries that term themselves “liberal democracies” and are supposedly flag-bearers of “humanitarian” principles.

Introducing herself to the Justices she noted, “My name is Dr Rehiana Ali and I am a concerned citizen of the United Kingdom. I am also a medical consultant – I have never seen so much suffering inflicted with such intensity and with so little regard for human life as by Israel”.

She further wrote, “I am reaching out to you with immense urgency and utmost revulsion at the barbaric atrocities being committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in open view of the world. Much of the world stands helpless as we witness in real-time a genocide occurring on our television screens and on social media. Those running the current world order have been complicit in these crimes against humanity.”

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will now face a test of whether international law and international human rights actually exist or they are simply a mirage. It will be a test of whether the International Court of Justice is an institution that warrants the name and can justify its existence.

On the International Court of Justice’s website, it states that it consists of “independent judges, elected regardless of their nationality from among persons of high moral character.” I can only hope that therefore any bias and partisanship is avoided because 8 billion people will be judging the ICJ on this outcome.

The South Africa vs. Israel matter, scheduled today i.e. on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th January 2024 will be closely watched. South Africa, by taking this step, has earned the gratitude of so many citizens of the world, who have been traumatised by the wholesale destruction of Gaza – almost 80% of the population has again been displaced. It does not need me to remind the Honourable Judges that the people in Gaza were displaced in 1948 in the first Nakba.

An estimated 30 000 Palestinians have been massacred. Half of those have been mere children. 70% of the total have been women or children. This has been an attack on the civilian population not on the resistance. The resistance since 7th October 2023 has remained strong. Palestinians have been told to go to “safe areas” which are then bombed.

Refugee camps have been subjected to an unconscionable bombardment – 60 000 tonnes of munitions have been directed at the Gazan population – this is equivalent to the three nuclear atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima. A horrific 4% of the Gazan population has been removed from the civilian registry. Entire families completely obliterated. Food, water and electricity were denied to Gaza – another war crime. Hospitals have been bombed. Babies were left to die and rot in the incubators. I have seen videos of fathers collect his children in plastic bags and of teenagers looking for the remaining body parts of their family members to bury. I have seen beheaded and burnt babies. White phosphorus – a banned chemical weapon – has been used causing fourth degree burns.

Every single day, about 10 Palestinian kids have a limb(s) amputated – many without anaesthetic. Even killed Palestinians are not left in dignity or peace – cemeteries destroyed by Israeli bulldozers. Bodies have been stolen by Israel. And now, the Palestinians are facing disease and starvation – deliberate tactics by the Israeli regime.

Over 300 healthcare professionals have been killed – ambulances attending the injured have been targeted. As of today, 117 Palestinian journalists have been targeted, their families also killed. Israel has been at pains to ensure that the world does not see. But the people have seen and are unequivocal in their condemnation of Israel.

Honorable Judges – if I have been traumatised by simply seeing these crimes, the impact on those being subjected to such terrorism is unimaginable.

Israel’s PR machine has been running at full throttle. But whilst the gutless mainstream press such as the BBC have covered for Israeli crimes – just one example is this article “High number of civilians hurt by explosives in 2023” from two days ago! https://www.bbc.com/news/world-67915770 – we know those explosives were Israeli. They and others such as Sky have continued to invite senior Israeli officials to defend their genocide brazenly and with no questioning by these “journalists”.

Thank goodness that Al-Jazeera, RT, PressTV and brave citizen journalists exist, without whom we would have been blind. Israel’s propaganda attempted to misconstrue the military offensive on 7th October – taking of Israeli hostages to exchange for thousands of Palestinians held – often without any trial or charge – in Israeli prisons. Many of these were women and children subjected to torture and sexual assaults. Every accusation that Israel made against Hamas was a confession. So, no doubt the Israelis will once again try their “screenings” – given the lies emanating from Israel, it will need to be taken “with a pinch of salt”. We know that there was no evidence of rapes, beheadings or burnt babies – indeed some of their pictures are not even of their own “soldiers”.

The number initially claimed has been almost halved – most of whom are not civilians but IOF “soldiers”.  Max Blumenthal of Grayzone news has adequately debunked much of the still circulating lies – https://x.com/MaxBlumenthal/status/1741940409339613235?s=20 . I refer you to the public statements by Israeli officials of their intent to commit genocide – with thanks to Max Blumenthal for the  compilation.https://x.com/MaxBlumenthal/status/1745345658167435658?s=20 The intent to commit genocide has been followed by the genocidal acts advertised.

The Genocide Convention, a cornerstone of international law, was established in 1948 as a commitment to ‘never again’ allow atrocities committed during WW2 yet for over 3 months, atrocities far exceeding those during WW2 have been brazenly committed by Israelis against the Palestinians.

This case will be a litmus test for humanity’s commitment to the solemn pledge of ‘Never Again.’ A misjudgement in this matter would not only underscore the ICJ’s ineffectiveness but also prompt scrutiny regarding its autonomy from nation-state political influences, potentially compromising the esteemed moral character of the individuals involved.

I therefore urge you to approach this case with the utmost diligence, impartiality, and commitment to justice. The eyes of the world are upon you, and the outcome of this particular case will reverberate through history, shaping perceptions of the ICJ’s impartiality and moral standing. With the exception of the genocidal Israeli regime and their genocide enablers, the people of this world know that Israel intended to commit genocide, has acted to commit genocidal acts and has succeeded in those intentions. Israel cannot be allwed to act with such impunity and without reference to the civilised world. The crimes against humanity being committed by Israel must be stopped and in this, your actions in this case will speak volumes about the commitment and effectiveness of the ICJ to international human rights law. She concluded.
