Islamabad : Special audit of Rs nine billion disbursed by American government for up-gradation of educational institutes is on the card.
A well placed source told that during Nawaz Sharif tour to USA Maryam Nawaz held cordial and bilateral meeting with Mishal Obama and apprised her the challenge facing the education sector of Pakistan and sought her special help.
The source disclosed that former President of USA wife Mishal Obama succeeded in taking huge sum of money from Obama administration and handed over to Government of Pakistan.
Former premier Nawaz Sharif form a powerful committee under the chairmanship of Maryam Nawaz to use this money to improve the educational facilities around the capital but the money was not properly utilized and the officers with the connivances of the committee misused this fund and fulfill their own nefarious designs.
Sources said that Federal Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had to spend the financial aid granted by American to provide basic facilities in some 423 schools under education reforms in federal capital which was being supervised and monitored by the Maryam Nawaz.
“Initially over Rs 120 million were released for 22 model schools under Prime Minister Education Program but basic facilities were provided in only few schools while in remaining schools facilities were provided temporarily”, sources added and maintained that for 200 schools tenders worth Rs 1.74 billion issued for the development work. The ministry of CADD has awarded contract to its blue-eyed construction companies Aid-KB and Suchal.
Sources said that funds worth Rs 130 million were released to these companies before starting the work and these companies had paid 25 % as commission.
The Auditor General has decided to conduct the audit of funds Rs 9 billion to scrutinize the alleged corruption in this fund.
