ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has appointed Farid Ahmad Tarar as the Chairman, Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP). He brings over three decades of experience in public financial management, regulatory reform, and economic governance.

A press release reveals that Tarar has worked extensively with international development partners on major reform initiatives across Pakistan, serving as Team Leader in a European Union–funded Public Financial Management (PFM) Reform Programme, Strategic Policy Advisor in the FCDO-funded SEED programme, and Team Leader in a UNICEF-supported initiative on strengthening PFM systems. In these roles, he played an integral part in advancing fiscal policy design, public expenditure reviews, institutional strengthening, and revenue reform efforts. Earlier, he served as Pakistan’s Commercial Counsellor in Rome, advancing Pakistan’s trade and economic diplomacy with the European Union, including engagement during the process leading to Pakistan’s GSP+ status.

As senior civil servant, Mr. Tarar has previously served as Secretary to the Government of Punjab, Finance Secretary of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Member of the Punjab Revenue Authority.

He holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Manchester Business School, University of Manchester (UK), and MBA (Finance). He has also authored key policy documents for international development partners, including the Sindh Public Financial Management Reform Strategy and the Sindh Tax Revenue Mobilisation Plan.
