ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of the top court Justice Yahya Afridi underscored the importance of parliamentary democracy, trichotomy of powers, and judicial hierarchy, emphasizing institutional coordination among the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary.
He also highlighted the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee’s (NJPMC) role as the top judicial policy forum, citing reforms like e-libraries, uninterrupted power, and improved court facilities for women litigants.
While talking to a delegation of 123 participants of the National Security & War Course 2027 from the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, the Chief Justice welcomed Maj. Gen. Mohammad Shahzad Khan, Chief Instructor, who led the delegation to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday. The delegation, comprising faculty members, officers from the Armed Forces and Civil Services of Pakistan, and 27 participants from friendly countries, visited the apex court as part of the NDU’s National Security & War Course 2027, aimed at exposing senior military and civil officials to Pakistan’s constitutional and judicial framework.
The Chief Justice also apprised the participants of the judicial hierarchy and the respective jurisdictions of various courts, and briefed them on measures aimed at strengthening court infrastructure, public facilitation and access to justice, including clean drinking water and other facilities.
The Chief Justice further highlighted the Gender-Responsive Justice Initiative 2026–27, with particular focus on Women Facilitation Centres designed to provide women litigants with essential facilitation and support services under one roof, as part of the judiciary’s broader effort to make justice more accessible, inclusive and responsive to public needs.
The Chief Justice also engaged participants in an interactive question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity to exchange views on constitutional governance, justice-sector institutions, and ongoing reforms.
The delegation later visited the Supreme Court Museum and the Court Annexed Mediation Center, showing keen interest in the Court’s judicial archives and institutional history. Souvenirs were exchanged between the Chief Justice and the head of the delegation on the occasion.
