ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has officially notified the value of Diyat for the financial year 2026-27 at Rs19,352,390, the Finance Division’s Internal Finance Wing announced through a notification issued days ago on July 27, 2026.
The notification, issued under sub-section (2) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code (Act XLV of 1860), declares Rs19,352,390- Rupees Nineteen Million Three Hundred Fifty-Two Thousand Three Hundred and Ninety only as the value of 30,630 grams of silver, which serves as the statutory basis for determining Diyat for the purpose of sub-section (1) of the same section.
The notification, numbered No.F.8(3)IF.III/91, was issued by Section Officer (IF-III) Afshan Iqbal and marked for publication in the Gazette of Pakistan, Extraordinary (Part-II). It has been addressed to the Manager of the Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press, Islamabad, with copies sent to the Secretary of the Law and Justice Division, with a request to circulate it to all courts and bar associations, and to the Deputy Director of the Finance Department at the State Bank of Pakistan, Karachi.
Annual benchmark for criminal compensation

Sheharyar Arshad noted on LinkedIn that this annual determination, based on the market value of silver, serves as a critical benchmark in criminal law matters relating to compensation. He said it holds significant importance for legal practitioners, courts, and policymakers alike, adding that staying informed about such statutory updates is essential for ensuring accurate legal interpretation and application.
Diyat, under Pakistani law, refers to the compensation payable to the heirs of a victim in cases of murder or bodily harm, and is revised annually by the Federal Government based on the prevailing market value of silver, in accordance with Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
