ISLAMABAD – The leadership of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of lives and widespread damage caused by recent floods, landslides, and other climate-induced disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan. The Chamber also conveyed solidarity with the rain-affected families in Karachi.

In a joint statement, ICCI President Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, Senior Vice President Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, and Vice President Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry said the recent tragedies are a “stark warning” that Pakistan is one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries and needs urgent action. They stressed that the government should allocate sufficient resources to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience in vulnerable regions, and invest in early warning systems, disaster management infrastructure, water resource management, and reforestation. President Qureshi also emphasized that climate change is a serious threat to Pakistan’s economy, agriculture, and business sector, not just a humanitarian challenge. He urged the government to collaborate with the private sector, civil society, and international partners to create a comprehensive national climate action plan. The ICCI leadership also called for long-term reforms, including promoting renewable energy, sustainable urban planning, and climate-resilient infrastructure. The Chamber assured its full cooperation in all initiatives aimed at building resilience and ensuring a greener and safer future for Pakistan.
