Interpol accepts resignation of its president Meng Hongwei after he disappears in China

FRANCE : INTERPOL has accepted resignation of its president Meng Hongwei with an immediate effect on October 07 who vanished in China during September this year.
Reports revealed that former president of the largest international police organization is under investigation as China’s top anti-corruption agency said in a one-sentence statement on Sunday that Meng was suspected of breaking the law. Meng, who is also a Chinese deputy minister of public security, was elected to head Interpol in 2016 at Lyon, France until 2020.
Issuing a media statement, the international police organization said on October 07 that the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France received the resignation of Mr Meng Hongwei as President of INTERPOL with immediate effect.
“Under the terms of INTERPOL’s Constitution and internal regulations, the Senior Vice-President serving on INTERPOL’s Executive Committee, Mr Kim Jong Yang of South Korea, becomes the Acting President”, expressed in a media statement.
It added that INTERPOL’s 87th General Assembly Session (to be held in Dubai, UAE, 18 – 21 November 2018) will elect a new President for the remaining two years of the current mandate (until 2020).
The INTERPOL General Secretariat, under the leadership of Secretary General Jürgen Stock, and its National Central Bureaus around the world remain focused on their mission: to help law enforcement officers across the world secure their borders, protect their citizens, prevent and investigate crime, and enhance global police cooperation, it concluded.(TLTP)
