Law-GAT Scheduled for August 3, 2025; Registration Open Until July 16

Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT), a mandatory requirement for law graduates seeking enrollment as advocates with provincial Bar Councils in Pakistan, will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, according to the Education Testing Council (ETC) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The registration process for the test began on July 1, 2025, and candidates have until July 16, 2025 to submit their application forms. As per ETC guidelines, it is essential for candidates to bring a printed Roll Number Slip and their original CNIC or Passport on the day of the test for identification purposes.

The Law-GAT serves as a gateway for law graduates to enter the legal profession and is designed to ensure that only individuals with the requisite legal knowledge and aptitude are permitted to practice. Graduates who qualify the test become eligible to apply for enrollment as Advocates with their respective Bar Councils.

The Law-GAT plays a crucial role in maintaining the standard of the legal profession in Pakistan. It assesses a candidate’s basic understanding of law, analytical reasoning, and legal aptitude, thereby safeguarding the quality of professional legal services in the country.

The Education Testing Council was established by HEC in January 2017 to provide a standardized and transparent assessment mechanism. Following a directive of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in August 2018, the ETC was tasked with conducting admission tests for LLB programs and for the enrollment of law graduates with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).

In its 34th meeting, held in August 2018, the HEC formally approved the restructuring of the ETC into an independent, financially viable, and accountable testing body aimed at ensuring the integrity of law-related assessments.

For more details and to register, candidates are advised to visit the official HEC website.
