Pakistan has established a Rs10 billion relief fund for earthquake-hit Turkiye as visiting to Governor Ankara Vasip Sahin at Ankara Governorate Saturday Pakistan Ambassador to Turkiye Dr. Yousaf Junaid expressed solidarity saying the entire Pakistani nation is in distress over the devastating earthquake.
A day ago, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the federal government has established a Rs10 billion relief fund for earthquake-hit Turkiye and urged people across Pakistan to “generously donate” for the victims.
“Hearts of Pakistanis beat with hearts of Turkish people”, Ambassador conveyed good wishes of the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the earthquake affectees saying the Prime Minister had establish a special fund to ensure timely assistance to Turkish brethren undergoing the most challenging time of their lives. He underscored that the Government of Pakistan as well as Pakistani people stand with Türkiye in this testing time.
On the occasion, the Ambassador handedover relief items from the Pakistani Embassy staff and informed the Governor that Pakistan Urban Search and Rescue teams are in Adiyaman, carrying out rescue operation alongside Turkish teams. He assured all out support to Turkiye till normal life returns in the affected areas.
Paying rich tribute to the Turkish government and the Great Turkish nation, who are dealing with this tragedy with courage and tenacity Dr Junaid said “like all previous challenging times, this time also Turkiye will emerge from this natural disaster stronger”.
Governor Vasip Sahin thanked people and Government of Pakistan for their generous and timely support and said that Pakistan and Turkiye have always stood by each other through thick and thin. Turkiye is stronger with Pakistan.
Nearly 100 countries offering assistance to Turkey: Ministry
Ninety-nine countries have offered assistance to the country to help with quake relief efforts, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
On the ground, search and rescue teams from 68 nations were present with 8,326 foreign personnel, the ministry tweeted.
Turkiye’s rescue operation enters 6th day as quake toll soars
Massive rescue operations continue in Türkiye’s southern provinces as the death toll soared to 20,665 with 80,088 others injured from Monday’s devastating earthquakes, the country’s disaster agency said.
The 7.7- and 7.6-magnitude earthquakes, centred in the Kahramanmaras province, affected more than 13 million people across 10 provinces including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Sanliurfa.
Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, also felt the strong tremors that struck Türkiye in the space of less than 10 hours. The death toll in Syria late on Friday climbed to 3,553 people, 1,387 in regime-run areas and 2,166 in the opposition-controlled territories.
