ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi today accorded a formal reception to Justice Martin Griffiths, Judge of the High Court of England and Wales (King’s Bench Division), at the Supreme Court of Pakistan for high-level discussions focused on strengthening institutional collaboration between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, particularly in judicial training, professional development, and capacity building.
Justice Griffiths, who is currently visiting Pakistan, serves as a member of the International Committee of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, UK, and chairs the Wales Training Committee of the Judicial College. Senior members of the Pakistani judiciary and legal administration, including Supreme Court Judges Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, the Director General and Director of the Federal Judicial Academy, the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, and the Director of Legal Education Usma Malik at the Pakistan Bar Council also participated in the discussion. During the session, delegates explored establishing structured collaboration between Pakistan’s Federal Judicial Academy and the Judicial College of England and Wales to enhance judicial education and judicial training. Participants emphasized the mutual benefit of exchanging training methodologies, institutional experience, and best practices.
The dialogue also addressed potential partnerships between the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and Pakistan’s legal community to advance advocate capacity building, focusing on advocacy training, continuing legal education, and professional development for lawyers.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi welcomed the engagement with UK judicial and legal bodies, expressing optimism that the talks would pave the way for sustained institutional cooperation in judicial education and legal capacity building.
