Sister of deceased brother in Islamabad seeks UN support for justice

After invoking a number of forums in Pakistan to nab preparators behind alleged murder of her brother Farooq Ali who was staying in Ramada Hotel Islamabad since May 2021, Yasmin sought United Nations Human Right Council support to determine criminal liability in the matter.

A year ago, Bradford Biochemist and a writer Farooq Ali, 44, was allegedly murdered in Ramada Hotel Islamabad. Criminal administration of justice sets into motion but surprisingly his family is continuously struggling for remedy so far as preparators are still at large.

Taking part in the recently held 52nd Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva (HRC52), Yasmin, sister of allegedly killed Farooq Ali urged the forum to make sure a proper probe into the matter.

Yasmin is a UK banking lawyer by background and Farooq Ali was a Biochemist. He had been educated at Bradford Grammar School and had 3 As at ‘A’ levels (Maths, Geography and Biology). He went to Imperial College London to study Biochemistry and he also had a Masters from the same institution.

Yasmin apprised that Farooq Ali was a high achiever saying he was living in Ramada Hotel Islamabad since May 2021 who was found dead in the same hotel in March 11, 2022.  She informed during the session that an independent exhumation report has not done.

“Despite meeting senior police officials, the British High Commission, involving very government departments, letter to PM Shahbaz Sharif and petitioning at the court no proper investigation is taking place”, Yasim said.

She further said that Islamabad High Court (IHC) has been involved since October 2022. “Our right to fair trail has been denied”, she alleged. Yasmin was of the view that authorities trying to close the case.

“There has been no genuine investigation or assistance from the British government. It is also pushing false allegations against us so I really do have to ask who kill my brother Farooq”.

I will demand a fair trial as we met hostility in many quarters. Ramada is considered a powerful entity in Islamabad – Our family now facing unsafety in Pakistan”.

While alleging performance of the concerned departments of criminal administration, Yasmin sought UN support in the matter.  “I am here to asking the UN to please take cognizance of denial of human rights in Pakistan – Please raise my brother case with the Pakistan as a matter of urgency. And more importantly please oversee an independent probe into my brother murder which I believe was likely politically motivated  – I believe if you don’t we’ll never have answer – I have left the UN account for further information on behalf of Farooq family”, Yasmin concluded.
