ISLAMABAD: The School of International Law (SIL) has successfully concluded its Summer Series on International Trade Law, a specialized course conducted for a cohort of law students from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
Sharing details of the programme on social media, Nida Tareen, Principal and Co-Founder of the School of International Law, said the intensive course was led by Barrister Sahar Sulaiman, who guided students through the workings of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its continuing relevance in the contemporary global trade order. The course also delved into the history of sustainable development, examining how trade and environmental considerations must increasingly operate in tandem in today’s international legal landscape.
According to Ms Tareen, the collaboration was made possible through the efforts of Professor Dr Aziz-ur-Rehman, whose support in fostering institutional partnerships aims to strengthen legal education and equip law students with practical skills in the field of international trade law. She noted that the faculty was particularly impressed by the students’ legal acumen, dedication, and active participation throughout the sessions.
Sahar Sulaiman, Legal and Policy Advisor and an expert in International Trade Law, also shared her reflections on the course on her LinkedIn page. “It is a rare circumstance where one gets to teach a subject they enjoy, to a class that enjoys it just as much, along with support from an institution that respects your process. I have been lucky and fortunate to have this rare situation come to life. Alhamdulillah,” she wrote, adding that her late father had taught her WTO law and that she missed him, knowing he would have been proud of her teaching the subject. She further said it had been “an absolute privilege” teaching the group of students, praising their questions, discussions, and enthusiasm, and wished them well for their futures.
Reflecting on the experience, Yumna Akhtar, an LLB graduate from the School of Law, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and currently a legal intern at the Chambers of Advocate Bushra Ahmed, praised the course for its engaging structure and depth. She said it was an honour to be part of the programme, adding that every lecture opened new avenues of critical thinking and that the interactive classroom environment, well-designed course outline, and supportive guidance from faculty, including Nida Tareen, kept the students engaged throughout. She thanked the organizers for the opportunity.
“The School of International Law extended its congratulations to the students on the successful completion of the programme,” Ms Tareen said, describing it as part of the institute’s broader effort to build capacity in specialized areas of international law among emerging legal professionals.
